Land Acquisition Process and Delayed Start
KUALA LUMPUR: The on-site construction of the MRT3 project may not commence until 2027, according to MRT Corp CEO Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim, who explained that the completion of the land acquisition process is a crucial step before construction can begin.
Public consultations for the project are ongoing, with inspections scheduled to end by December 2. Afterward, MRT Corp will finalize the alignment and proceed with land acquisition, which is anticipated to take up to two years, potentially stretching into 2026.
Challenges of Economic Factors for 2027 Launch
“We hope to begin by 2027, though that depends on the economic situation,” Zarif stated. “With the economy improving, we’re optimistic that it will provide a stable foundation to push forward,” he remarked at the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards 2024 press conference.
